@INSURANCE: Ron Laboray, The Prodigal Sun
After 10 years away in North Carolina, we are excited to welcome back Ron Laboray to his hometown of Granite City, IL! Laboray’s work explores shared human historical accomplishments, myths and religions, legends and conspiracy, popular culture and scientific laws, which function as layers leading through a timeline of events. Laboray’s work is very process driven. Consider the paintings as topographical views of 2D maps- the 2D maps are superimposed layered images of random but important information. These combinations were scanned and cut 3D using a CNC router, and then painted according to the original formation.
@GREASE: Layla Zubi, The familiar and the strange
We are also very excited to welcome back Layla Zubi, another Granite City native! Zubi is currently an MFA candidate at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Her exhibition brings together the multiple places she’s been a part of, such as suburban neighborhoods and mosques. Through paintings and sculptures, Zubi conveys the repetitiveness of mundane structures and valuable objects and expose historical events and the generational identity complexes it carries.
@IN/OUT: Ben Bradshaw, HYPER TRELLIS
Using craft-store yarn, Bradshaw is creating a site-specific installation in our IN/OUT space. Weaving around both the architecture and objects located in the space, Bradshaw frames certain moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. The neon string highlighted by UV lights alongside his netting technique create portals that are almost alien-like.
@SLOT LOT: Tiffany Mulligan
